Bumpy Road

Well, we had a couple of bumpy weeks after returning from 1Kid's last evaluation. He really rebelled against having to mark an activity as hard, or to be corrected. We have had a few good (short) conversations, and it's been much better. I've shown him as many testimonials as I could to help him understand that what he is doing is VERY IMPORTANT, thus needs some time, seriousness, consideration, and thoroughness devoted to it, by himself and his dad when he is over there every other week. So, this week has been much better. He is realizing when something is hard and he has some wiggle room for improvement, which will eventually lead to results. And, I told him, when I correct him, I am following the guidelines given, we read through them before hand, and to just quickly make the adjustment and do the best he can for the remainder of the activity, WITHOUT COMMENT. (No further discussion is required) I do the activity under HIS direction the first time, so he can correct me if needed, and it helps him to understand it better. He likes telling me what to do and correcting me! :-) So, overall, it's been easier for him to focus on the activity, rather than feeling oppositional! The activities are gradually starting to stretch him too, so I think he's realizing the importance, particularly after doing them as "hard" and at the end they are "easy." Whew!
